This week I have been meditating on the scripture (Matt 11:28-30), where Jesus invites his disciples and us "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest,29)Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls,30)For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Jesus had just sent the 12 out on a short term missions trip for interns and when they came back He invites them to come and rest.
A friend pointed out that if we are hanging with Jesus, we should be experiencing Rest, Easy, Light and if we aren't perhaps we have somebody else's yoke on and it will squish us. He wasn't saying that our lives should be a bed of roses, life without problems, but we should realize that we have to be in a yoke with Jesus for His invitation to bring us relief. I get this picture that I am one of those nervous, shaky chihuahua dogs yoked to a huge African Bull elephant(Jesus, my burden bearer). Now who is going to be pulling the load and who is going along for the ride?
My puny efforts amount to nothing and wear me out but if I learn to walk in tandem with Jesus, not only does He pull the load but I get to beside the King who calls me His friend.
I guess the yoke is on us...we get to chose...mine or His.
